The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Salam Mustapha, has threatened that the party will “weaponize” its support base and make Ghana “extremely ungovernable” if the Mahama administration does not stop what he describes as the harassment, prosecution and intimidation of NPP members.
Speaking to the media after the party petitioned the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps on May 19, he accused the administration of creating an atmosphere of fear for members of the opposition party.
According to him, being a member of the NPP in Ghana today has become a dangerous political identity, with members unsure whether they could be arrested or picked up at any moment.
“That is the sad reality to be an NPP person in Ghana today. Is this the democracy that we want to build?” he asked.
The NPP Youth Organizer warned that the party will not continue to tolerate what it considers state-sponsored intimidation.
“We will not sit back and allow this government to continue to harass, molest and intimidate our members,” he said.
In his strongest warning yet, Salam Mustapha said the party would mobilize its base if the alleged harassment continues.
“If this nonsense doesn’t stop, we will weaponize our support base and we will make this country extremely ungovernable for them. We are sending this warning and caution to government,” he declared.
