Six people have been butchered with machetes at Akyem Ayirebi in the Ofoase-Ayirebi District of the Eastern Region as two faction chiefs are fighting over who the legitimate chief of the town should be.
The injured are currently receiving treatments at the various hospitals in the area.
The old chief who had been buried, leading to the litigation, was exhumed by one faction and kept in the rain a whole day.
Currently, there is an uneasy calm in the town as tensions keep rising due to the litigation.
The case has been reported to police, pending any arrest.
The unit committee chairman for the town, Isaac Ahenkorah, told Onua News that there has been chieftaincy litigation in town for some years now, and so an injunction was placed on the burial of the chief.
He said due to the litigation, the body of the deceased chief has been kept in the mortuary for over one and a half years, waiting for approval before burial.
Mr Ahenkorah explained that the High Court in Koforidua struck out the case, paving the way for the burial of the late chief.
He explained on their way to the cemetery, the other faction prevented them from proceeding to the cemetery, which led to confrontations, but they managed to sneak through one of the routes and bury the body.
The chairman added that they later heard the body had been exhumed and brought to the town and put under the mercy of a heavy downpour.
Mr Ahenkorah said, under the supervision of the police, the body was later sent back to the cemetery for burial.
