South Dayi Member of Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has said the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2024 election victory was not by chance.

He says it was a feat predicted by their National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, which he ensured the party worked to bring it to fruition.

Dafeamekpor says Asiedu Nketia had visited his constituency as part of the party’s ‘Thank You’ tour after the election, where he said he was going to “annihilate” the then governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, although the NDC won the December 2020 election, they were cheated after the dispute, the reason the Chairman assured party members to keep faith and count on leadership to secure victory for them in the next election.

Reacting to comments that the Chairman is embarking on a ‘Thank You’ tour because of his flagbearer ambitions, the Majority Chief Whip said going on a tour after election is part of the party’s election management strategy which has existed over the period.

He said the grassroots, during President Mahama’s ‘Thank You’ tour, demanded the return of the party’s leadership to the grounds to appreciate their efforts for working hard to secure victory after eight years in opposition, the reason the Chairman is currently touring the country.

Speaking on JoyNews on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, he said recounted the times Asiedu Nketia toured his polity, admonishing the supporters to keep hope alive for a victorious future where the NPP would be erased from power.

He said claims that the visibility of this year’s is different from previous exercises is not true, explaining it was because the party was in opposition at the time.

“Yes. We were in opposition, go and check the records,” he said when asked whether a similar tour was undertaken in 2021. “It was, because we’re in opposition, people thought that it was a matter of course.”

He recounted that, “he came to my constituency. In fact, that one, he visited three zones in my constituency. He visited Kpeve, he visited Piki, he visited Tongo, we took him to the Dzemeni market.”

“He went to tell the people that we had won elections, but we were cheated, so they should keep faith with us, and that in 2024 he’s going to lead the team, and he will annihilate the NPP,” Dafeamekpor said.

“So it is not true that this is the first time he’s doing Thank You Tour as chairman after a general election. No.”
