A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video that appears to show him assaulting a female student on the school campus.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Daniel Fenyi, confirmed the arrest.
“The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student arrested! Regional Education Directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ,” Mr. Fenyi said.
The incident has generated widespread public concern after footage shared on social media showed the teacher allegedly engaging in a physical confrontation with the student while bystanders pleaded with him to stop.
In the video, the teacher is seen repeatedly striking the student and, at one point, lifting and throwing her to the ground. Witnesses can be heard urging him to desist, reminding him that the victim was a female student.
The teacher, who appeared visibly angry in the footage, reportedly responded by asking, “Is she aware she is a lady?”
The circumstances that led to the confrontation remain unknown, as neither the school authorities nor the Ghana Education Service has disclosed details surrounding the incident.
The statement confirmed that the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has commenced investigations and is expected to submit a comprehensive report to the service’s headquarters.
The arrest comes amid growing calls from the public for accountability and stronger measures to protect students from abuse within educational institutions.
The outcome of the ongoing investigations is expected to determine any further disciplinary or legal action against the teacher.
