The body of a middle-aged man believed to have been swept away during Monday’s devastating floods has been found in the Korle Lagoon near Lavender Hill in Accra.

According to TV3’s Stanley Nii Blewu who reported the story, eyewitnesses say the body was discovered on Wednesday, July 1 by fisherfolk searching the lagoon for items washed away by the floodwaters.

Residents said the body is believed to have been in the lagoon for the past three days before it washed ashore.

The discovery has heightened fears that more flood victims may still be missing, as some families continue searching for relatives who reportedly disappeared during the flooding in and around the Lavender Hill area.

At the time of filing this report, the body remained at the scene awaiting the arrival of police officers to convey it to the mortuary for identification and further investigations.

The latest discovery comes in the wake of Monday’s floods, which claimed multiple lives, displaced thousands of residents and caused extensive damage to homes, businesses and public infrastructure across parts of the Greater Accra Region.
