The Eastern South Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the National Operations Directorate, has arrested 258 suspects in connection with the violent disturbances that erupted at Nsawam–Adoagyiri on July 7, 2026.

The violence is a renewed clash from last year between youth groups.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations suggest that in the renewed clash, some youth allegedly looted shops, set fire to an ECG transformer, vandalised the Oko Anadwo Palace and an astroturf facility, and robbed mobile money vendors, triggering widespread fear and panic in the community.

Police said the intelligence led operation led to the swoop and the retrieval of two locally manufactured firearms, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, suspected tramadol and Viagra tablets, and several mobile phones believed to be relevant to the investigation.

The suspects

The Public relations officer of the Eastern South Command David Fianko – Okyere in a press release stated, the suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured residents that adequate security measures remain in place to safeguard lives and property.

It has also appealed to members of the public with information that could aid investigations to report to the nearest police station.

The Police Command further urged residents, particularly the youth, to remain law abiding and refrain from acts that threaten public peace, security and social order.

The Nsawam–Adoagyiri Municipality has become a hotspot for chieftaincy disputes, recurring community and youth clashes, and violations of the Public Order Act, posing threat to peace, security, and public order in the area.
