Lawyer Mike Oquaye Jnr has called for clarity on whether any discussions during the Attorney-General, Dr Dominic Ayine’s recent visit to the United States influenced the speed of romance fraud suspect, Abu Trica’s extradition.

Speaking on the matter on the KeyPoints with Alfred Ocansey, Mr. Oquaye Jnr said previous extradition cases showed that government could pursue international cooperation while still allowing legal processes to run their full course.

He argued that the concern is not about Ghana demonstrating its commitment to fighting crime, but about the timing of the recent extradition.

According to him, earlier cases involving extraditions were handled after the necessary legal procedures had been exhausted.

“We agree with all the examples he gave that the government is showing that they are serious and all of that. Those processes were exhausted,” he said.

Mr. Oquaye Jnr questioned whether the Attorney-General’s visit to the United States had any connection with the urgency surrounding the matter.

“We are just asking about this recent visit and if so, what is the government’s position on such things? We just want to know,” he stated.

He stressed that seeking cooperation from international partners must go hand in hand with fairness and respect for due process.
