MTN Ghana has identified fiber cuts caused largely by road construction activities as the leading cause of network disruptions in the Western and Central regions.
Speaking at the MTN Editors’ and Stakeholders Forum in the Western Region, the Senior Manager for Sales for the Western and Central Regions, Prince Owusu Nyarko, said the telecommunications company continues to work closely with agencies such as the Department of Urban Roads and the Ghana Highways Authority to minimize damage to its fiber infrastructure during construction projects.
“Anytime there’s construction and they don’t take care, they damage our fibre. The message we want to send out is that whenever there is construction activity, if we work together, we can ensure they don’t damage our infrastructure,” he said.
Mr. Nyarko explained that for major road projects, construction agencies provide MTN with engineering maps indicating where work will be carried out, enabling the company to relocate sections of its fibre network before excavation begins.
He noted that this collaboration has significantly reduced the frequency of fiber cuts and improved service reliability.
Public Asked to Protect Personal Information
Beyond network infrastructure, MTN urged customers to remain vigilant against mobile fraud.
Mr. Nyarko advised subscribers never to disclose their Mobile Money PINs or other personal security details and cautioned against clicking on suspicious links sent from unknown sources.
He encouraged customers who encounter fraudulent activities to report them immediately by calling MTN customer care on 419 or 100.
