Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticised government for not providing any financial policy for the cocoa sector.
Speaking on the floor of the House after the mid-year budget presentation on Thursday, July 23, the Minority Leader cocoa farmers have been infairly treated under the current government.
“Throughout his review there was no policy announcement for the cocoa sector. The 4 million cocoa farmers are suffering,” he stated.
He continued: “This finance minister since he took over, we have seen suffering and wailing and then comes here to lament.”
“He talks about the determining the true cost of economic policy, he is talking about having met some cost, what he has forgotten that he has refused good counsel from the Minority,” the Leader stated.
Meanwhile, the Effutu MP has urged Ministers of State to express concern about the Finance Minister’s comment about not spending money.
Afenyo-Markin said the Finance Minister’s statement that the “true measure of a finance minister is not determined by how much he spent” must cause worry to the Ministers of State.
“He (Finance Minister) has just told this House that the true measure of a finance minister is not determined by how much he spent. Such a statement must cause palpitations among Ministers of State,” Afenyo-Markin said.
“Mr. Speaker, basically what he is telling Ministers is that he is not going to spend, he is not going to release funds to you,” he added.
According to the Effutu MP, Ministers of State are already being denied enough funds to manage their various ministries and will be rendered redundant.
