Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni Valley, Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, has denied allegations linking him to illegal mining, describing a flyer circulating on social media as false, misleading, and defamatory.
In a disclaimer issued on Friday July 24, the MP said he had become aware of a flyer alleging his involvement in illegal mining activities and categorically rejected the claims.
“I wish to state categorically that these allegations are false, misleading, and without any factual basis,” he said.
Mr. Cudjoe explained that the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency is a long-established mining community where mining has been the backbone of the local economy for generations. He noted that the predominant form of mining in the area is rock mining, which he said is distinct from illegal alluvial mining that destroys rivers and other water bodies.
The lawmaker stressed that his role as Member of Parliament has been to support the government’s Community Cooperative Mining Programme, which aims to formalize small-scale mining, promote responsible mining practices, create sustainable jobs, and ensure compliance with Ghana’s mining and environmental regulations.
According to him, his involvement has been limited to supporting lawful government initiatives designed to improve the livelihoods of constituents while encouraging environmentally responsible mining.
Mr. Cudjoe further stated that he has never supported, participated in, or encouraged illegal mining or any activity that degrades the environment or pollutes water bodies.
“I remain committed to responsible mining, environmental protection, and the sustainable development of our constituency,” he said.
The MP called on the public to disregard the flyer and refrain from sharing unverified information intended to damage his reputation.
He also warned that he reserves the right to pursue legal action against individuals or groups responsible for publishing and circulating what he described as false and defamatory claims.
