The Nursing and Midwifery Council has announced plans to undertake a monitoring visit to the Techiman Krobo Nursing Training College, together with the Ministry of Health, following a student demonstration that turned chaotic after police intervention.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 27 when trainee nurses staged a protest over deteriorating welfare conditions on campus, including poor feeding, unsanitary conditions, and inadequate communication between the college management and the Students’ Representative Council.
Speaking to journalists after a visit by P arliament’s Health Committee to the Council on Wednesday, July 29, the Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Philomena Woolley, said efforts are underway to address the underlying issues and restore calm on campus.
She disclosed that the team will pay a visit to the school this week.
“Officially, it has not come to the council but we have also seen it on social media and we are in talks with the Ministry of Health which has asked that we give them someone so that we move together as a team to go and assess the situation and review what is happening,” she told journalists.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has announced to students, parents, guardians, staff, and the general public that the Nursing Training College, Techiman Krobo has been temporarily closed with immediate effect until further notice.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, July 29, the Ministry said the decision has been taken following current unrest and break down of rules and regulations in the College.
The Ministry explained that despite several meetings, counselling, and appeals by stakeholders to encourage dialogue and restore order, some students have continued to engage in conduct that disrupts academic activities and threatens the peace, safety, and orderly administration of the institution.
“The temporary closure is intended to restore calm, protect lives and property, and allow appropriate authorities, to assess the situation and determine the necessary steps toward reopening the College under conducive conditions,” the Ministry stated.
All students have been directed to vacate the campus peacefully and return to their respective homes effective Wednesday, July 29, 2026, 5:00 PM.
“Parents and guardians are advised to make the necessary arrangements for their wards. We wish to assure all stakeholders that every effort will be made to resolve the situation promptly,” the Ministry added.
The Ministry further announced that information regarding the reopening of the College will be communicated through official channels in due course.
