The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two security guards of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School (BOGISS) over an alleged sexual assault involving a special needs student.
The two “watchmen” have also been arrested and handed over to the Police for investigation.
In a press statement dated August 20, 2026, the GES said management received a report of the incident, which it described as “disturbing”.
According to the Service, preliminary information indicated that the student was on medication. “The student reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the incident and required medical attention. The alleged assault occurred during this period,” the statement said.
The GES said the two watchmen have been interdicted with immediate effect as an initial administrative measure.
It added that investigation into the matter is ongoing, and management would take appropriate action in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.
“The Service will not tolerate conduct which puts students at risk or compromises their safety and wellbeing,” the GES stated.
It also urged all staff to uphold professional standards and protect the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students.
The Service assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter is being treated seriously.
The identities of the two watchmen and the student have not been disclosed. The statement was signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi.
