A three-storey building at Manhyia South in Kumasi has been ravaged by fire, destroying 11 of its 44 rooms and leaving affected residents counting their losses.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, August 20, 2026, near the Manhyia Government Hospital.
The Ashanti Regional Deputy Fire Commander, ACFO2 Amos Aban, said the Regional Control Room received a distress call at 12:23 p.m., after which two fire engines were dispatched from Asokore Mampong and the KNUST Campus.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and successfully brought the blaze under control at about 1:40 p.m., preventing it from spreading further.
According to the Fire Service, 11 rooms were completely affected by the fire, while 33 rooms were saved.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been officially established, although there are preliminary reports of a possible gas-related incident.
Meanwhile, the NADMO Officer at Manhyia South, Alhaji Alahaji, has appealed to individuals, organisations and other benevolent groups to support residents affected by the incident.
He said NADMO is also making efforts to intervene and provide assistance to the victims.
The extent of the damage and the immediate needs of the affected residents are expected to be assessed as authorities continue investigations into the incident.
