The father of Caleb Yirenkyi is overwhelmed by the rise of the midfielder, recalling how he started at lowly Bechem RC Park.
The Black Stars player, who scored the first of Ghana’s two goals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, made his debut in the Premier League on Saturday, August 21 in Coventry City’s 0-3 loss at champions Arsenal.
Watching his son play in the game, Joshua Larbi Yirenkyi said he had never imagined his son will rise so quickly.
“I am really surprised by how far Caleb has come,” he told Akoma FM’s Emmanuel Owusu.
“I never imagined that he would go this far from starting from scratch, to FC Nordsjælland, then to the Black Stars, and now to the English Premier League.
“It amazes me every day, and as a father, I am extremely proud of how far my son has come.”
He admitted that his son’s rise has earned him “recognition and accolades”.
“Because of his success, I am also enjoying some recognition and accolades.
“Everywhere I go, people identify me as Caleb Yirenkyi’s father.”
Joshua Larbi Yirenkyi expressed the wish to see his son continue to “grow, achieve even greater things, and one day play for a club like Arsenal or Real Madrid”.
