The New Patriotic Party (NPP) wishes to inform the general public, its members and all stakeholders that the Party is set to announce its official position on the proposed amendments to the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, as set out in the Government’s Position Paper dated Thursday, 30 July 2026.
This is contained in a press release dated August 28 and signed by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Chairman of the Party’s Policy Coordinating Committee.
“As part of the national process, the Party was formally consulted and made submissions to the Constitution Review Committee (CRC) which then presented its report to Government. Subsequently, Government issued a Position Paper setting out its responses to the CRC’s recommendations,” the statement reads.
The NPP said, consistent with its commitment to inclusive and consultative decision-making, “the Party’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Policy Committee has undertaken a detailed review of both the CRC report and the Government’s Position Paper. The party’s committee has since prepared the NPP’s position paper following an analysis of the two documents.”
The NPP’s position paper will now be submitted to the Party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the National Executive Committee (NEC) for consideration and adoption.
“Thereafter, the NPP will communicate its official position on the proposed constitutional amendments to the Ghanaian people,” the statement concluded.
The NPP’s statement follows the inauguration of an 11-member Constitution Review Implementation Committee (CRIC) by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine on August 28.
The Committee is Chaired by Presidential Legal Counsel and Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Ms. Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew.

According to the statement, “The Committee is tasked with examining the government’s position paper alongside the report of the Constitution Review Committee and developing a comprehensive framework for the implementation of these proposals.”
Government reiterated “its commitment to an inclusive and transparent constitutional review process that reflects the aspirations of the Ghanaian people and strengthens our democratic governance.”
