The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of the newly enskinned Chief of Yidani and his son.
The two, Majejiba Magne, 25, and Haruna Nlegle, 34, are in custody for the killing of Naa Ntimla Nwenisim and Ntimla Bilaga.
The chief and his son were murdered on August 14, 2026, after armed men attacked their residence at Yidani.
Police say the suspects were picked up after intelligence indicated that two persons linked to the killings were travelling from Dombine in the Gushegu district towards Chereponi.
Acting on the tip-off received on August 26, the Gushegu Police alerted their counterparts in Chereponi, who intercepted and arrested the duo.
They have since been transferred to the Yendi Divisional Command and remanded in custody to assist with investigations.
Preliminary investigations show that three unidentified armed men stormed the chief’s compound at about 3:00 a.m. on the day of the incident and demanded to be directed to his room.
When the demand was refused, the attackers fired into the roof of a nearby room before forcing their way into the chief’s room, where they shot both victims.
Police retrieved five empty BB cartridges from the scene. A post-mortem examination conducted at the Tamale Teaching Hospital on August 17 established that both victims died from severe injuries and haemorrhagic shock consistent with shotgun assaults.
The Inspector-General of Police has since deployed a special operations team from the Police Headquarters, with security patrols intensified in Yidani and its surrounding communities.
The Command says investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the murders and to arrest other persons who may have participated in the attack.
Police has appealed to residents of Yidani, Dombine, Gushegu, Chereponi and surrounding communities to volunteer credible information, with assurance that such information will be treated confidentially.
The police have also urged the bereaved family and youth in the area to remain calm and avoid reprisal attacks, stressing that anyone found culpable will be dealt with according to law.
