The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said it has released all 2026 BECE examination results that were previously withheld for scrutiny over suspected irregularities or other criminal-related offences.
John Kapi, Director of Public Affairs at WAEC assured that any outstanding results at the moment is not due to the fact that they are being withheld over examination malpractice or other criminal conduct.
Speaking on TV3’s Daily Brief, Thursday, September 3, 2026, he explained that any pending results are mainly due to the absence of continuous assessment marks submitted by some schools for their candidates.
“For now, we don’t have any outstanding results that have not been released as a result of any criminal action,” the Director of Public Affairs stated.
He explained that in a situation where a candidate’s result remains pending, it is likely because the school failed to submit the candidate’s required continuous assessment marks.
“So, when you come across any pending results, it is not because they committed any offence but is simply because a certain component of the paper is not present and, in this case, we are talking about the continuous assessment,” he explained.
The WAEC official further clarified that all candidates whose results were previously held for scrutiny have now been released.
“All those whose results were held for scrutiny and other things, they have all been released,” he said.
He reiterated that any remaining pending results is due to missing continuous assessment marks and not sanctions arising from examination malpractice.
“If there is any that has not been released, it is as a result of the absence of their continuous assessment marks,” he added.
A total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for the examination.
They comprised 304,415 males and 315,828 females.
The Council said the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved the cancellation of subject results for 496 candidates and the cancellation of the entire results of 105 candidates.
In addition, the subject results of 119 candidates have been withheld, while the entire results of 48 candidates have also been withheld.
Also, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools were withheld for further scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the Computerised School Selection Placement for 2026 BECE candidates will be released on Friday, September 4.
