An operation led by soldiers has led to the destruction of structures belonging to traders at Anloga Junction area in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The soldiers demolished container shops and wooden structures belonging to traders and other commercial operators.
The demolition comes barely nine days after tomato cargo drivers, taxi drivers and plywood workers operating at the area demonstrated against what they described as a forceful attempt to evict them from the land.
On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the affected traders and drivers took to the streets to protest an alleged eviction notice issued by a private developer, who they said intended to undertake a development project on the land.
The group claimed to have operated at the location for more than 45 years, and had demanded clarity on the ownership of the land and due process before any eviction or demolition.
They also questioned documents presented by the private developer as proof of ownership and called for the intervention of the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly in the dispute.
However, the matter remained unresolved as both sides continued to dispute the future of the land.
Today’s military operation has now resulted in the demolition of several container shops and wooden structures at the site, leaving affected operators to count their losses.
The development is expected to reignite concerns over the ownership of the disputed land and whether the affected occupants were given adequate notice and due process before the demolition.
