Piesie Esther, born Esther Owusu, is one of Ghana’s most respected gospel musicians and songwriters.
Her professional music journey began in 2002, meaning she has spent more than two decades using music to preach faith, hope, and the goodness of God.
From humble beginnings Piesie Esther was born on June 3, 1981, in Tamale, although she hails from Nsuta-Atonsu in the Ashanti Region, where she spent much of her childhood. From an early age, she became involved in church singing and developed a strong passion for gospel music.
Her journey was not one of instant success. She had to work through difficult circumstances while trying to establish herself as a gospel artist. Her story is particularly inspiring because she has spoken openly about the financial difficulties she experienced during the early years of her career.
The breakthrough did not come overnight In 2002, Piesie Esther released her debut album, Apae Ama Me. The album introduced her voice and ministry to a wider Ghanaian audience.

Eventually, she released Me Nte Ase in 2008. The album earned her nominations at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards for Gospel Artiste of the Year and Gospel Song of the Year. Although she did not win those main categories, she received the Best Motivational Song award at the Ceval Gospel Awards.

Years of consistency Piesie Esther continued releasing music, including Ziba Beko, Agye Won Nsem, and the worship album Osoreɛ Mu Tumi. Her songs increasingly became vehicles through which she shared her Christian faith with audiences in Ghana and beyond.

At the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, after two decades in the industry, Piesie Esther won Gospel Song of the Year for “Wayɛ Me Yie” and Gospel Artiste of the Year, out of seven nominations that year.
For someone who had once considered quitting due to financial and career setbacks, winning those accolades after 20 years became a powerful testimony of resilience.
