The Accra Regional Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying 175 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic at Abofu, a suburb of Achimota in the Okaikwei North municipality.
According to police, the drugs were being transported from Kpandai in the Northern region to Accra when the truck was stopped Tuesday afternoon, September 22, 2026.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the consignment. Police say the suspects allegedly offered GH¢30,000 to an officer in an attempt to secure the release of the vehicle and the seized exhibits which was rejected.
The suspects and the exhibits are currently in custody as investigations continue.
The interception comes amid a renewed crackdown on drug trafficking across the country.
Earlier this month, the Wa District Magistrate Court remanded two suspects after police seized 192 compressed wraps of a substance suspected to be cocaine in Wa in the Upper West region.
The suspects were arrested on September 6, following intelligence that the drugs were being transported from Kumasi to Wa through the Bole enclave.
In August, the Tema Regional Police Command also seized 866 parcels of a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine concealed in sacks of gari at the Tema Port enclave.
Three suspects, including a 31-year-old Dutch national, were arrested during the intelligence-led operation.
Police put the street value of the seizure at about US$6.9 million.
More recently, the Narcotics Control Commission announced the arrest of three suspects linked to the network of Dutch fugitive Jos Leijdekkers, known as “Bolle Jos”, after French Customs intercepted about 3.9 tonnes of cocaine hidden in a container of plastic waste that originated from Ghana.
The Commission has said Ghana will not serve as a safe haven or transit point for international drug trafficking organisations.
