Dr. David Kofi Wuaku, Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, has asked Ghanaians to give the Black Stars their full belief ahead of today’s match against The Gambia, saying players perform best when they know the nation is behind them.
“Every Ghanaian is a coach in the days before a big match,” Dr. Wuaku said with a smile. “We all have opinions on the lineup, the formation and the substitutions. That is part of the passion, and it is part of what makes our football culture so alive. But once the whistle blows, our job changes. Our job is to believe.”
He said the players carry heavy expectations. “They are young men playing under the eyes of millions. They feel every pass and every missed chance more deeply than we ever will. What they need from us is not more pressure. They need trust.”
Dr. Wuaku said football careers are shaped by moments of confidence and doubt, and that a supportive nation can tip the balance.
“A player who hears his name chanted after a mistake plays the next ball without fear. A player who hears silence or insults hesitates. We have the power to choose which of those he hears.”
He said the Ghana Sports Fund remains committed to supporting athletes and the systems around them, so that players can focus on performance. He added that lasting success is built by a nation that stands with its team in every season, not only on match day.
He also called for maturity after the final whistle, whatever the result. “If we win, let us celebrate with humility. If we do not, let us respond with respect and encouragement. Champions are made in both moods.”
“Let us give them our voices,” he concluded. “Let us give them our patience after. That is how great teams and great nations are built.”
