Media General journalist and Data Research Analyst Wisdom Sarfo has been selected for the 2026 UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technologies (UK MEET) Fellowship, an international programme aimed at strengthening journalism on science, technology and innovation.

Sarfo was selected from a highly competitive pool of more than 500 applicants from Ghana and Nigeria, with only about 13 percent of applicants admitted to the programme.

The fellowship is delivered by Imperial College London through Imperial Global Ghana, with support from the British High Commission.

The selection process involved independent assessments of applicants’ professional experience, reporting track records, perspectives and proposed investigative story ideas.

Sarfo, who works with Media General’s TV3 News Research Desk, has developed expertise in data journalism, investigative research, data visualisation and evidence-based storytelling.

His work focuses on breaking down complex national issues into accessible stories, using data to examine public policy, economic developments, governance, climate change and other issues affecting everyday Ghanaians.

His published work includes investigations and analyses of Ghana’s flood management challenges, public infrastructure, food insecurity and economic policy.

The fellowship provides an opportunity for Sarfo to further explore the intersection of emerging technologies and journalism, particularly how artificial intelligence and other technological innovations can address practical challenges in Ghana.

The 2026 programme brings together journalists and digital content creators for intensive training, beginning with online preparatory sessions followed by a residential programme in Accra from October 11 to 17.

Participants will engage with researchers and industry professionals in areas including artificial intelligence, climate and environmental risks, biomedical innovation, and the circular economy.

They will also receive practical training in digital storytelling, scientific verification, data interpretation and investigative reporting.

A key component of the fellowship involves developing original science and technology stories, with participants given opportunities to pitch their ideas for funding and publication.

Selected fellows who excel during the pitching process may also qualify for a fully funded knowledge-exchange visit to the United Kingdom, including engagements with Imperial College London.

For Sarfo, the selection adds to his growing experience in specialised journalism and professional development.

He previously participated in the African Youth Negotiators Fellowship, which focuses on climate negotiations and international climate governance, and completed the African Extractive Media Fellowship, an intensive programme dedicated to strengthening reporting on Africa’s extractive industries.

His participation in the UK MEET Fellowship is expected to strengthen his ability to combine research, data analysis and emerging technologies in producing impactful journalism.

The fellowship also presents an opportunity to expand collaboration between journalists, scientists and researchers, while promoting more informed public conversations about how emerging technologies can contribute to Ghana’s development.
