Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has filed fresh defamation suit at the Accra High Court against Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, over alleged defamatory remarks.
According to a statement issued by F. Paa Kwesi Abaidoo, lead counsel for Afenyo-Markin, the suit, numbered GJ/0045/2027, was filed at the Accra High Court on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
The legal action stems from statements allegedly made by Sammy Gyamfi during the Government Accountability Series while responding to Afenyo-Markin’s criticism of GoldBod and Sammy Gyamfi over alleged losses of $1.9 billion under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
The latest suit follows the High Court’s decision last week to strike out Afenyo-Markin’s earlier defamation suit against Sammy Gyamfi on grounds that the writ was defective.
In a separate action, Afenyo-Markin has also sued the Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei, following the discontinuance of an earlier suit at the Achimota Circuit Court.
According to a statement on the matter, the fresh writ, numbered GJ/0061/2027, was filed on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, over alleged defamatory statements made by Eric Adjei on Peace FM.
The filing followed the discontinuance of the earlier case at the Achimota Circuit Court on Tuesday morning.
The suits seek to pursue the substantive defamation matters before the High Court. Further details on the claims and reliefs sought were not provided in the statement.
“Although we disagree with the High Court’s earlier decision setting aside our client’s previous writ, this new writ has been issued against the Defendants in accordance with the Court’s latest Interpretation of the rules.
“The Mills of Justice Grind Slowly but with Great SURETY,” Afenyo-Markin’s lawyer stressed.
