MultiChoice and its mother company, Canal+, have reduced DStv packages across Sub-Saharan Africa from six to four and rebranded Premium as Ultimate under its new “Expect More” campaign.

The new line-up – Starter, Select, Sports and Ultimate – takes effect on November 5, 2026, with prices cut in various markets. Every Premier League match will now be available in the mid-tier Sports bundle for the first time.

In Ghana, the government announced it had reached agreement with MultiChoice Ghana and Canal+ to make pay-TV more affordable and discourage pirated “ghost boxes”.

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, at a press conference with Dstv and Canal+ on Monday, October 26, 2026, said the engagement was driven by the need to protect Ghanaian consumers.

“How do we put content in the hands or in the homes of Ghanaian families at a price that is affordable? The Ghanaian consumer is our ultimate interest,” he said.

In Ghana, the four packages will cost GH¢50, GH¢100, GH¢250 and GH¢570 per month respectively.

In Kenya, where MultiChoice has lost 57,000 subscribers in the first half of the year to 653,066, the packages will be priced at KES 750 for Starter, KES 1,500 for Select, KES 3,000 for Sports and KES 7,300 for Ultimate, down from KES 11,700. Same rates apply on DStv Stream.

DStv Starter will have 116 channels, Select 149 channels, Sports 159 channels with all Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, WWE and UFC, and Ultimate 180 channels including Formula 1, MotoGP, cricket, rugby, ATP tennis and golf.

In East Africa, a new channel, SuperSport Swahili, and SuperSport Kickoff showing selected live football matches, will be added.

In Uganda, the packages were announced as Shs25,000, Shs60,000, Shs100,000 and Shs185,000.

In South Africa and Botswana, Canal+ and MultiChoice are maintaining five bouquets, but Premium has also been rebranded as Ultimate.

MultiChoice Kenya CEO Nzola Miranda said the overhaul is part of a strategy to win back subscribers after years of churn.

“You either increase prices, you get more money from fewer people, or you increase the number of customers, even if they pay less,” he said at the launch at Radisson Blu Nairobi.

“We now belong to a global group with a different philosophy. The more people who watch our content, the better.”
