The Kwabre East Municipal Assembly has begun distributing 1,200 desks to schools across the municipality following concerns raised by community members about the shortage of furniture in some basic schools on GhanAkoma.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Amankwah, disclosed this during an interview on GhanAkoma, hosted by Sir John, saying the intervention was aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions.

According to him, the desks have been procured for schools in communities affected by the shortage, as well as other areas within the municipality.

He explained that the furniture includes university-standard tables and chairs, as well as metal-made teachers’ desks, adding that the distribution exercise will take place today and tomorrow.

Mr Amankwah further announced plans to ensure that all basic schools in the municipality are provided with the new furniture before 2028.

He said the Assembly intends to phase out wooden desks and tables and replace them with the new furniture.

The intervention follows complaints from residents during a Mempotemu discussion on GhanAkoma, where community members called on authorities to address the lack of desks in some schools.

The concerns raised on the programme have since received attention from the Municipal Assembly, resulting in the ongoing distribution exercise.
