Two boys, aged four and six, have drowned in an abandoned illegal mining pit while trying to save their brother at Kotokuom in the Atwima Mponua district of the Ashanti region.

The saddened incident happened around 11:30am on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

Narrating the situation to Akoma News’ Andrews Akwaboah in an interview, an eyewitness, Nicholas Osei said, the three kids went to the area to check their crop farm when one fell into the pit of which the two tried to rescue him.

“They have planted some crops at the area and they normally go and water them,” he said.

“KK was rescued whilst Patupa and Kwadwo died in the pit full of water,” he added.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Nhyinahini Government Hospital for autopsy and preservation whilst KK who survived has also been admitted for treatment.
