The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has hinted at plans to demolish structures and clear traders, hawkers, and drivers operating along the Abrepo Junction stretch as part of plans to redevelop the area.
Affected hawkers and drivers have reportedly been given until Thursday, October 8, 2026, to vacate the area ahead of the exercise.
However, uncertainty over where the affected persons will be relocated has raised concerns among local stakeholders.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, the Assemblyman for Abrepo Junction, Bosie Amponsah, said he was particularly worried because there has been no clear indication of where the affected hawkers and drivers will be moved.
“I am very frustrated and even more worried than the affected hawkers and drivers because we still do not know exactly where they will be relocated,” he said.
According to him, despite the impending deadline, he is yet to receive clarity on the destination for those who will be displaced.
“I’ll be honest, as we speak today, I don’t know where they’re going,” he added.
The planned exercise is expected to affect a number of hawkers, commercial drivers, and other workers who depend on the Abrepo Junction area for their livelihoods.
The uncertainty surrounding the relocation has therefore become a major concern, with affected persons seeking clarity on where they will continue their activities after leaving the current location.
