At Sabon Zongo, a suburb of Accra, police has arrested a 30-year-old individual identified as Aminu Amidu Mohammed for trading harmful drugs. Amidu was also in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Command was given a tip-off by a community watchdog leading to his arrest by a police intelligence team.
Reports from the police indicate he was found with various prescription-only drugs, including Gebedol and other forms of opioids, popularly known as “Red.”
During an address by the police at the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters Monday, May 26, 2025, DCOP Duuti Tuaruku told journalists that the suspect had been arraigned, admonishing the public to partner the police to fight crime.
“The Police would like to bring to the notice of the public a successful arrest and have charged a 30-year-old trader for possession of quantities of dangerous drugs and an unlicensed firearm.
“Upon information received by the Accra Regional Intelligence Team, the suspect was identified for allegedly possessing and distributing suspected dangerous drugs,” he said.
