The Ghana Police Service has arrested John Odartey Lamptey, a man seen assaulting his wife in a viral social media video.

The arrest followed public outrage over the video, which showed Lamptey assaulting his wife at their Ofankor residence in Accra’s Ga East municipality.

A statement issued by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Department, Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, confirmed the arrest.

The statement says the suspect, Odartey Lamptey, was arrested on Monday, November 17, at their residence following the public outrage on the matter.

Two siblings of the suspect, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, were also arrested for allegedly attempting to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and sharing the viral footage.

The police have, meanwhile, rescued the tenant during the operation to ensure her safety. However, the victim, according to the report, fled the scene before the arrival of the police, and efforts are underway to locate and protect her.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the police to ensure victims of domestic violence are protected, while suspects are made to face the law.

“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law,” the statement assured.
