Activists demanding justice for female students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) have declared today, Wednesday, October 21, as “Red Wednesday” to show solidarity with victims of alleged sexual abuse.
The campaigners are urging Ghanaians to wear red as a symbol of support for the girls at the centre of allegations against the school’s interdicted headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai.
The initiative, being promoted online with the hashtag “Wear Red on Wednesday – Justice for Obuasi SHTS Girls”, is aimed at sustaining public attention on the case and pushing for accountability.
The case gained national attention after investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni reported allegations that several female students had been sexually abused by the Headmaster of the school.
Interior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka disclosed on Tuesday, October 20, that Abdulai has been arrested and the investigation transferred to the Police Headquarters in Accra.
He said investigators are following due process, including procedures for DNA testing, as part of the probe.
