The Minister in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has said that content of the memo written by the embattled former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, in relation to allocation of funds to the ‘opposition’ is farfetched.
According to him, it amounts to a sitting government arming its opponents to wrestle power from them.
“Many of the claims he makes are most improbable. The idea that a party in government would actually finance their opponents to remove them from power, beats my imagination, it defies logic,” he said on the KeyPoints on TV3, May 10.
Mr Ofosu explained that, “I don’t see how the NPP government will approve significant amounts of money that Adu-Boahene mentions, to be given to the NDC to boost our electoral performance to beat the NPP. It is most improbable.”
He also denied receiving money for purchase of vehicle for the ‘President Elect’.
It is recalled that in a memo dated May 5, addressed to the National Security Coordinator, Mr Adu-Boahene provided details of how over GHC49 million he is alleged to have stolen and laundered, was disbursed.
Among the items on the list is money paid to opposition parties, allowances to members of the Subsidiary Legislation and Defence Committees.
However, The Presidential Spokesperson said, “…the most appropriate platform for Mr Adu-Boahene to be making these revelations is the court. If this is his defence, he should take to court for the judge to determine whether it will muster scrutiny.
He was optimistic that, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has enough evidence to prosecute Mr Adu-Boahene.
“The Attorney-General is convinced that he will secure conviction in this case,” Mr Ofosu stated.
