The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO) have asked traders selling near the Blue Light Arena at Adum to leave the place.
Government has earmarked the place for the construction of a lorry pathway, authorities have disclosed.
The directive comes a day after the area caught fire which could not be easily accessed by fire authorities as a result of congestion.
The KMA and NADMO say the upcoming development is to rid the area of congestion to prevent similar occurrences and also help firefighters in accessing the area should such mishap reoccur.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) blamed its inability to douse the devastating flame that destroyed hundreds of shops at Adum, the Central Business District of Kumasi, on their inability to make space to the fire due to how congested the enclave was.
This saw several shops including ones on a two-storey building burnt to ashes at the commercial hub. Two other 3-storey buildings adjacent the Hello Fm building were also burnt.
Speaking on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Ofori Agyeman Boadi, popularly known as ‘King Zuba’, indicated that the move is to help decongest the area to prevent fires and also improve emergency response in the vicinity.
Traders have been given a two-day ultimatum to relocate from the area for the demolition exercise to commence.
Affected persons within the area have been urged to comply with the directive to allow the demolition to commence on Monday, March 24, 2025, after the Saturday and Sunday ultimatum.
