Two second half goals from the Eagles of Mali were enough to secure a 2-0 win over the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Hamari Traore and Lassine Sinayoko scored to send the Eagles to the top of Group E on Tuesday, January 16.

Chances that came the way of the South Africans in the first half were all missed.

But it was the West Africans who took advantage of the few chances that came their way in the second half.

A free kick awarded right on the edge of the penalty area by Egyptian referee Mohamed Adel in the 60th minute produced the first goal.

The second came six minutes later after the Malians cut through the defence of the South Africans for Sinayoko to extend the lead.

Captain Traore hit the rebound from the free kick to open the score

Earlier, Namibia’s Brave Warriors had stunned 2004 champions Tunisia.

An 88th minute header by Dean Hotto gave the South Africans their first win in the history of the tournament.

The next matches in the group will see the two South African nations coming face-to-face while Mali’s Eagles will lock horns with the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
