Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has appeared before the Ghana Police Service following allegations of assaulting a police officer during the ‘Save the Judiciary’ demonstration.

During the Monday, May 5, 2025, demonstration in Accra, videos emerged showing the Minority Leader allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The Ghana Police Service, after the video became viral on social media, wrote to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, requesting the release of the lawmaker to aid investigations into the matter.

In a statement issued by the Police on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, it stated that the lawmaker presented himself for investigation.

“Following a request to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Hon. Afenyo-Markin reported to Police today, 7th May, 2025 to assist the investigations,” portions of the statement indicated.
