A single teacher taking care of an entire school at a village called Hihadzi in the Afram Plains district of the Eastern region is calling on the government and philanthropists to come to the aid of the pupils.

Agnes Yeboah Agyapong, a trained teacher who defied the odds to teach at the village without electricity, potable water, lack of motorable road among other challenges, is the only one teaching in all eight (8) classrooms in the school.

Reports indicate every teacher that is posted to the school rejects it due to the poor conditions over there. But Mrs. Agyapong has been teaching in the school right after her teacher training education over three years ago.

Speaking to a blogger who visited the school to interview her, she said she has to give 30 minutes to each class every day, something she has been doing for some time now.

She narrated some challenges confronting them, disclosing that they have to build their own classrooms with mud since the huts they earlier occupied were inundated with snakes and scorpions.

“I’m really suffering. I’m a trained teacher and this is my first station. I’ve been here for three to four years. There are eight classrooms and because the kids are a little obedient, I divide the time for them 30 minutes each. There are about 140 to 150 pupils. The classrooms used to be mere huts and we were being disturbed by snakes and scorpions so we decided to build it ourselves with mud. We are on the second stage and we hope it gets a little higher when we get to the third stage.

“There is no water here, no electricity so I am pleading with the government to come to their aid. The children love education but the avenue is not conducive. Although I am alone but I there is not enough Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) to teach the children. So, I am pleading with all philanthropists and well-meaning Ghanaians to come to our aid. We need books, a classroom, shoes for the children, uniform and whole lot of things,” she narrated.

She called her contact in the video below for persons who would want to support with any of the items she mentioned.
