Over 80 acres of land that the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) salvaged after the demolition of the Agbogbloshie scrapyard and the Onion Market four years ago is under siege.

A visit to the location revealed that the scrap dealers are back.

Speaking with Mohammed Zakaria, a sub-chief in Old Fadama who is also the Chairman of the scrap dealers stated that, “we were sacked from this place because they said the government was coming to use the land for Agenda 111 hospital project. It’s been four years on where is the hospital? You as a journalist, you’ve toured the whole place, did you see even a foundation or a concrete block anywhere?”

Zacharia alleged that “The NPP government sacked us because they wanted to sell the land to themselves.”

He added that “Now, we (scrap dealers) are back as you can see. We are restructuring here and building our offices”.

“I’m begging the NDC government led by H.E John Dramani Mahama that they should investigate why the New Patriotic Party demolished Agbogbloshie onion and scrap dealers’ yard and prosecute anyone who would be found guilty,” he pleaded.
