Tensions have erupted at Baidoo Bonso Senior High Technical School in the Ahanta West Municipality as a group of angry youth from the Agona community took matters into their own hands, locking up the office and official residence of the school’s headmaster, Mr. Samuel Ofori Appiah.
The youth are accusing Mr. Appiah of gross mismanagement, abuse of office, and alleged embezzlement of school funds.
Hence have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Western Regional Minister and the Minister of Education, demanding his immediate removal.
According to the group, the headmaster has been engaging in several questionable activities that have negatively impacted the school.
These include allegations of diverting food items meant for students and selling them for personal gain. They also claim that he has been selling school property such as metal beds, tables, and chairs to scrap dealers.
Francis Kweku Esuah, Vice Chairman of Agona Ahanta youth group revealed that the headmaster has been collecting unapproved fees from first-year students and imposing illegal practical charges on WASSCE candidates.
He added that the school’s infrastructure has seen serious neglect under Mr. Appiah’s leadership, worsening conditions for both students and staff.
Another point of concern raised by the group is the alleged commercialization of the school’s frontage.
They claim the headmaster has allocated portions of the school’s entrance to traders, turning it into a makeshift market, which they argue disrupts the learning environment and poses security risks.
The youth are calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to act swiftly by removing Mr. Appiah from his position and launching a thorough investigation into the allegations.
