Residents of Agona Kwanyarko in the Agona East district of the Central Region are living in fear and panic after two youth groups wielding cutlasses, guns, broken bottles and sticks stormed their vicinity to attack them.

Three persons got injured after live bullets were shot indiscriminately, with many items destroyed in the process.

The mayhem came as a result of a GHC500 debt owed one of the suspects who attacked his debtor, Kofi Annan, for failing to pay him his debt.

Onua News’s Nana Yaw Asare reports that one Kofi Annan supposedly bought a tree from Yaw Baah to fall and use as timber.

However, Kofi Annan, after paying GHC400 out of the GHC900 charged for the tree said he wasn’t going to pay the GHC500 balance since the tree in question had been fallen at the time he visited the bush to fall it.

When a friend of Yaw approached Kofi to collect the GHC500 balance on his behalf, it turned into a fight between the two when Kofi insisted he cannot pay since he did not cut down the tree.

After the disagreement, the friend informed Yaw Baah who called for reinforcement to invade the Salam suburb of Agona Kwanyarko to disrupt the entire place.

Yaw, who hails from Agona Fawomanye, gathered some youth from his community, together with the Zongo youth to attack residents of Kwanyarko Salam for the GHC500 debt he was owed.

Speaking with Onua News, Kofi Annan said he was at a drinking spot with friends when Yaw Baah’s friend came to collect the money which resulted in the fight.

He said they started firing live bullets indiscriminately, attacking innocent people, destroying television sets, ECG metres and a main switch in the process.

Although the police have been informed, no arrests have been made yet.
