The jailed leader of Heaven Way Champions International Ministry, Patricia Asiedua is to pay 25 penalty units on the charge of charlatanic advertisement, equivalent to 300 cedis, and will serve 30 days if she defaults.
On the two counts of defrauding by false pretence, she has been sentenced to 15 years on each count and will serve the terms concurrently.
Per the facts of the case, Nana Agradaa displayed the bundles of money during an advert on Today’s TV where she promised to distribute Ghc300,000 and encouraged members of the public to attend an all-night service for a share of the money.
“Investigations also established that due to the said false representation made in the adverts on media platforms, complainants and other members of the public came from far and near to attend the said all night service.
The prosecution noted that during the said all-night service Agradaa directed the congregation to form groups of 20 members and each member was to pay an amount of money starting from GHc1,000 and below.
She made the representation that if the first group of 20 could pay GHC1,000 each, she would give them GHC50,000 to share.
Agradaa continued in that fashion and promised the next group to pay GHC900 in order to get a sum of GHC40.000 and so on.”
The prosecution further narrated that the church leader failed to fulfill her promise.
She was subsequently arrested and arraigned before the Circuit court.
