An Accra Circuit court has sentenced Evangelist Patricia Asiedua popularly known as Nana Agradaa to 15 years in jail for charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence.
The Judge, Evelyn Asamoah, said she skillfully executed the offences and did not show remorse.
The Accra Circuit Court on Thursday, July 3 convicted Nana Agradaa over charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretenses.
The Founder of Heaven Way Church, was on October 9, 2022 arrested after allegations from some church members that she had defrauded them during an overnight church service.
The court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah convicted Agradaa ordered for a pregnancy test to be carried out on her before sentencing.
Prosecution, however, disagree, they note that Agradaa was convicted to a Ghc10,000 fine on similar charges in 2021 and because it wasn’t deterrent enough, she went right back.
“We want a sentence that will send shivers down the spine of like-minded persons,” prosecutor adds in his closing remarks.
Lawyers of Agradaa argued for a noncustodial sentence citing that she has a 24-year-old daughter reading law at the university and a 3-year-old child whose lives will be shattered if she’s sent to jail.
They also claim she has positively impacted several people, seeing that she leads a congregation who rely on her for their livelihoods.
