The Ahafo Regional Police Command has arrested three young men for the unlawful possession of firearms and an alleged plot to carry out a robbery.
The suspects, arrested in separate but related operations on Saturday, February 22, 2026, are Johnson Mawutor, 26; Kelvin Ofori, 22; and Mawuli Dogba.
Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) James Annor, addressing a press conference on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, said the suspects were allegedly planning to commit robbery but were foiled during a late-night patrol along the Ayomso Goaso road.
He explained that a Regional Taskforce patrol team was on a routine duy at about 11.30 p.m. when officers spotted Mawutor and Ofori riding an unregistered motorbike towards Ayomso, near Goaso, the Ahafo regional capital.
DCOP Annor says they switched off the headlights of the motorbike and attempted fleeing upon noticing the police.
He said the patrol team gave them a hot chase and succeeded in arresting them.
A search conducted on the two led to the retrieval of an AK-47 assault rifle, with serial number 68098152, loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition. The weapon, he said, had been concealed in a bag they were carrying.
Further investigations led police to Abrodanho, a suburb of Goaso, where a search at Mawutor’s residence resulted in the arrest of a third suspect, Mawuli Dogba.
Items retrieved from Mawutor’s room included a Beretta Bruni pistol with serial number MOD.92; an NM157-1941 pistol; 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition; and 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.
Police also recovered four Motorola handsets, a Contixo F35 drone, a machete and a bayonet knife.
DCOP Annor said preliminary investigations indicated that Mawutor, Dogba and another suspect identified as Mohammed-Adinan Ussif, who is currently at large, allegedly obtained the weapons on the same day, February 22, 2026, at Techiman in the Bono East region.
He said efforts were underway to apprehend the suspect on the run and any other persons connected to the case.
The Regional Commander assured residents of the police’s continued commitment to ensuring peace and security in the area and urged the public to volunteer credible information to support crime fighting efforts.
