An aspiring Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Beatrice Spio-Garbrah, has promised to revive the GJA Ashanti chapter if elected for the position.
Speaking to some groups of journalists in the region Tuesday, June 3, 2025, she said she would re-energise and make the Association more transparent, and easily accessible to win back the confidence of its members who have been sitting on the fence over the years.
Ms Spio-Garbrah who is a News Editor and Hostess of Akoma Mu Nsem on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi, a subsidiary of Media General, says re-energising the chapters will also enable the public to build back trust in the Association.
Beatrice Spio-Garbrah, who specialises in Health reporting, successfully filed her nomination to put herself up for the contest in the upcoming 2025 GJA elections in Ashanti Region on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
With several years of experience in the media landscape, Ms Spio-Garbrah is widely respected for her dedication to socially responsive journalism, among others.
Her intention to run as Regional Secretary is rooted in the conviction that journalism must be used for societal development. She is also contesting to help disseminate information timely to members of the Association.
He affable and approachable personality, are attributes she aspires to use to run an open door administration to encourage more journalists in the region to join the Association to enable them benefit from media capacity building programmes.
She also aims at ensuring the welfare,freedom and rights of journalists in the region are highly protected.
The Ashanti GJA deserves a Secretary like Beatrice Spio-Garbrah, who connects well with members and can together help build a stronger relationship among members of the GJA and other stakeholders in the Ashanti Region.
Beatrice stands as a beacon of journalistic excellence within the media landscape of Ghana.
As a Broadcast Journalist with the Media General Group, her dedication has earned her numerous awards.
Before joining Media General, Beatrice Spio-Garbrah had worked with Kapital Radio in Kumasi and also served as Ashanti Regional Correspondent for Metro TV.
“Our over 70-year-old Association has gone through serious challenges over the years but is still standing, giving a clear indication that if all members come on board, the GJA will once again be the citadel of professional excellence in Ghana, Africa and beyond,” she said.
Ms Spio-Garbrah is a born leader, goal-oriented person, unifier, displays honesty and discretion, meticulous with work ethics, has a good eye for detail, and also possesses organisational, professional and communication skills.
