President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has granted executive approval for the elevation of three municipal assemblies into metropolitan assemblies.

The President, in a response to the Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development Minister, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, who had recommended for the upgrades of some Municipal and District Assemblies, asked him to carry on with it.

The Minister had prayed the President to give his approval to some listed Assemblies, indicating they have met the requirement and equally grown in capacity and population.

The three assemblies upgraded from municipal to metropolitan assemblies are the  Kpone Katamanso Municipal, Gomoa East Municipal and the Techiman Municipal assemblies.

The president has also approved 12 district assemblies to be upgraded into municipal assemblies. They are the Bole, Afigya Kwabre South, Atwima Kwanwoma, Atwima Nwabiagya North and Obuasi East Districts.

The others are the Sekyere South, Ningo-Prampram, Anloga, South Tongu, Shama, Techiman North and the Pru East Districts.
