The sculpture of President Akufo-Addo erected at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, the Western regional capital, has generated a lot of controversies since the President unveiled it.
Many have questioned why a President would honour himself by putting up a sculpture of himself when it was supposed to be done by his successor.
Meanwhile, a Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Foyo Gbande, has remarked that the President decided to honour himself because he is aware Bawumia would not even honour him should he even become president.
According to Gbande, it is part of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration to be building monuments of himself as his legacy since he has got nothing better to show for during his tenure of office.
During a one-on-one on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa Tuesday, November 12, 2024, he described the current administration as the laziest in Ghana’s history.
“His legacy is to be building monuments –statues. He went to commission it. He is not even sure that even if Bawumia becomes President he will honour him so he must do it before he leaves.
“Akufo-Addo’s government is unprecedented in laziness. It’s a very lazy government who did nothing. The legacy they have shown us is thievery. We’ve heard a lot about corruption but these people went beyond corruption to steal. They took more than they needed,” he stated.
