Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has blamed former President William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for the turmoil in the party.
He says the leadership style of the former President contributed to the party’s humiliating defeat in the December 2024 elections, leading to the current disintegration in the NPP.
He believes the NPP, as it stands now, has been compromised by certain elements currently representing the party.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe is therefore calling on the party leadership to consult some senior members of the NPP to help restore the party’s image.
Speaking on Hot Issues on TV3 Sunday, May 4, 2025, the NPP founding member expressed worry that some party members have excluded certain founding fathers, prioritizing parochial interests and further destabilizing the NPP.
Although Akufo-Addo is no longer the party’s flag bearer and leader, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe alleges he is still pulling strings behind the scenes, fueling the party’s current turmoil.
“I’m always praying that, we still have senior people around, they should find a way to get the party back to the state that it was. At the moment, the party has been destroyed. Look at the results of the last elections.
“It’s not a question of factionalism, it’s a question of leadership. I personally have really been shocked by the leadership of Akufo-Addo. He came in and he never listened to anybody.
“We have people like Kwame Pianim, if we come to the economy, you have nothing to worry about. But you brought in your own cousin and it became a family affair,” he expressed.
When asked how he still blames Akufo-Addo for the party’s woes despite not being at the forefront, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said “he is still pulling strings behind.”
