Free SHS, the only legacy President Akufo-Addo would have boasted of after his tenure of office, according to lawyer Martin Kpebu, is now rolling back funding making parents bear over 70% of the cost.
Citing an analysis put out by the Africa Education Watch, he said the policy which started on some good note is now rolling back funding, where government’s portion of the cost is just around 26%.
According to him, the President is not someone who can walk his talk, having made so many pronouncements and failing in executing them.
The private legal practitioner was speaking on the increasing illegal mining menace which has exacerbated over the years, despite the president assuring the citizenry of putting his job on the line.
Mr. Kpebu has pointed out that the President only thrives on slogans and has not had any intent of genuinely fighting illegal mining which is also known as ‘galamsey’.
Speaking on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, September 07, 2024, he said the President’s only proud legacy is making his family rich through deals his daughters have signed, and his brother, Ken Ofori-Atta, making profits from loans the state secures outside.
“Even free SHS, time has shown that they’ve rolled back funding. As we speak now free SHS is just funding about 26% the last time Kofi Asare did the analysis so over 70% is borne by the parents.
“Meanwhile, if you look at beginning of it, the funding was greater, then as the years went by, he rolled back so I can confidently say and we can analyse with so many policies that Akufo-Addo is not somebody who can walk his talk. He thrives on slogans. Now we can say so with hindsight of over 7 and a half years. Where is the legacy he’s got?
“The only legacy that he is proud of and he is confident about is his family has become rich. The ledgers of the public purse. He’s come to transform his family. We borrow and Ofori-Atta makes his cut from Databank,” he stated.
