John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to launch his political party today, Thursday, October 16, 2024.
The unveiling, which will take place at the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel in Accra, will officially present Ghanaians with another party for the 2028 general elections.
The launch of a new party by Mr. Kyeremateng comes after his resignation from the NPP prior to the December 2024 elections, when he pulled out of the party’s flag bearer election over allegations of a biased electoral process.
Alan Kyeremateng, who served as Minister of Trade and Industry under both Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, complained that the aspirants who partook in the flag bearer race were not treated equally, necessitating his exit from the party.
The NPP, prior to a new amendment made after the December 2024 elections, had a regulation that required the party to trim the number of flag bearer hopefuls to five, if there were more, in a super delegates’ election before the general primary to settle on one for the main election.
After having ten persons aspiring for the 2024 candidacy, the party organised a super delegates’ election where Alan Kyeremateng placed third to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
He described the processes for the super delegates’ conference as unfair, citing the assault on some of his polling agents, which the party leadership remained silent over, as part of the reasons for his exit from the NPP.
He formed the Movement for Change, where other smaller political parties and movements joined to become the Alliance for Revolutionary Change, to contest the 2028 presidential election.
Meanwhile, the Movement is now unveiling a political party that will contest in subsequent elections in the country.
Commenting on the issue of galamsey on TV3’s BigIssue segment of the NewDay morning show on Wednesday, October 15, 2024, Solomon Owusu, a senior member of the Movement for Change, disclosed that their upcoming political party will be the better force to drive the government to fight the canker, unlike Dr. Jebuntie Zaato, a Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, and the NPP, whom he said did nothing about galamsey during their eight years in office.
“Zaato and his people must understand that when we are talking about issues of galamsey, for now, they must shut up, and then we’ll deal with the issues as our party comes out and then take on this administration because in 2028, we’ll give them a match of their lives.
“Tomorrow Coconut Groove, 9:00 in the morning, all roads lead there. Journalists must come in their numbers. We are unveiling it,” Owusu announced.
