Former Head of the Political Science Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Richard Baah Amoako, has cast doubts on the party’s ability to win the 2024 polls.

He has doubted how the party would manage to win the elections to make history without resolving what he has described as leadership crisis in the party.

The ruling New Patriotic Party is determined to win the upcoming general elections to become the first political party under the 4th Republic to have three consecutive terms in office.

It has, accordingly, elected Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the flag bearer and currently in the process of electing parliamentary candidates at constituencies with sitting Member of Parliaments belonging to the party.

This forms part of the NPP’s preparations to get a viable team to undertake the ‘breaking the 8’ agenda despite doubts by some election observer organizations and statesmen due to the current economic downturns in the country.

Speaking on Onua FM/TV’s Pae Mu Ka Thursday, January 04, 2024, he told host JB that the the December polls will bring defeat for the NPP stressing that the party has lost the confidence of Ghanaians.

“It is going to be extremely difficult for the NPP to break the 8, looking at the leadership crisis and the fact that the party has failed to resolve it,” he said.

“Besides, the party has performed abysmally which has compelled some sitting MPs to voluntarily bow out of the parliamentary race and you think that the party can use this to break the 8,” he quizzed.

Dr. Baah Amoako thus expounded that the development has created apathy in the NPP as party supporters, especially the grassroot people have decided not to vote on December 7.
