Austin Gamey, has issued a stern warning to Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, to desist from issuing threats to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu.
Mr. Gamey’s caution comes on the back of accusations by Bryan Acheampong, saying on Accra-based Citi FM that Mr. Ablakwa has targeted him to disrupt the the Social Security and National Insurance Trust’s (SSNIT) sale of 60% of its stake in four hotels to his company.
In the said interview, Bryan Acheampong noted that Mr. Ablakwa’s call for the sale of the hotels to be halted was nothing but politics.
“He [Ablakwa) said this whole thing is not about Rock City. Yes, its about me and I have intercepted documents about him going after Rock City and it is not about SSNIT. It’s not about the interest of the hotels but its about politics and it’s about his hate. We are going to play on the turf of politics. He is doing politics, it has nothing to do with the hotels and it’s pure politics,” he said on Friday, July 12, 2024.
Reacting to the comments, Mr. Gamey noted that the Agric Minister’s words were threats and warned that whoever dares harm the North Tongu MP will not be forgiven.
“Some may say he is slow, but it is better to hasten slowly sometimes. I appreciate what they have done, and we must also congratulate our friend and brother, Hon. Sammy Okudzeto Ablakwa. Anyone who dares to harm or mistreat him will do so at their peril and will never be forgiven,” he said on Accra-based Joy FM.
“Nobody dares touch him, nobody dares do him anyhow, whoever does that will do it at their peril, they will never be forgiven,” he added.
The labour expert extolled the MP’s effort for ensuring that his works has helped stop the sale of the hotels to Rock City, the Minister of Agriculture’s company.
Mr. Gamey also emphasised the need for organised labour to ensure that not only UTAG but all beneficiaries, including young people, understand the long-term impact of current actions.
He urged the younger generation to recognise the efforts made to protect state asset and advised them to emulate same when in positions of power.
“We should demand the dismantling of inappropriate practices and ensure that only the right decisions are made,” he said. “We all must act appropriately and responsibly,” he noted.
