The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Aowin, Stephen Morcher, has officially handed over a newly constructed office building to the Aowin Municipal Education Directorate.
The new facility, located in Enchi, was an initiative of former MCE, Samuel Adu Gyamfi and the previous administration, aimed at improving the working conditions of the education directorate and strengthening educational administration in the municipality.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Mr. Morcher commended his predecessor, Mr. Adu Gyamfi, for initiating the project.
“When I assumed office, the building was still under construction. With the support of the current Assembly leadership, we were able to complete the project and make it ready for use,” he said.
Mr. Morcher emphasised the importance of providing a conducive environment for the education directorate to function effectively. He also noted that education infrastructure remains a major challenge in the municipality.
He revealed that a significant portion of about 70 to 80 per cent of the Common Fund allocated to the Assembly is being directed towards education and health.
“We are committed to constructing more school buildings, including six-unit classroom blocks in communities without schools, and establishing junior high schools in areas where students currently travel long distances to attend classes,” he stated.
Mr. Morcher reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving education standards in the municipality, pledging continued investment in infrastructure and resources.
The Municipal Director of Education, Shaley Blankson, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the donation of the new facility.
She appealed to the MCE to address other pressing challenges facing education in the municipality, including inadequate classroom furniture, poor infrastructure, and a lack of teachers’ accommodation.
These challenges continue to affect effective teaching and learning. “We are hopeful the Assembly will prioritize them in the coming years,” she added.
